Nostalgia Unlimited - I

We were not brought up together. We did not go to school together. We are not even from the same city. We have known each other for just a year. Yet we have one thing, which brought us together. EE-34/11. We have had some of the best days of our lives within the walls of this very apartment. Almost a year ago, I moved to Calcutta, with a group of 17 trainees, (me being the sole representative of the fairer sex…) with no plans of staying here more than 6 months. The very first minute I stepped on Howrah made my resolution all the stronger. The first sights of the so claimed city of joy did not tell as much .I was cursing all the way, everything I could possibly curse. I began my house hunt initially for three of my friends, while I decided to settle in a Paying Guest accommodation. Two days later my plans were disrupted by the arrival of l & J. They were from Tamilnadu, they were alone, they needed accommodation, they didn’t know Hindi (neither did I). And I m supposed to be very kind hearted… so the story began. We started looking for a single bedroom apartment, which would be sufficient for 3 of us. We met 4 brokers, we saw 3 houses with each broker, we didn’t like even one house they showed. Then a week passed by. We had finally managed to frisk one of the best houses our guys saw due to a feud between the local brokers. Then P & S landed in cal. They were from AP. They were alone, they needed accommodation, they knew Hindi, and again we were supposed to be very kind-hearted… so the story continued. Back to square one…. Now we were looking for a 2-bed room apartment. The culprit behind this whole mess was D. She had moved to cal about 2 days before me. She had applied for a transfer to blore, which she had, bare min chances of getting approved. She decided to join the crew once; n then decided not to, n then decided to. So that made 6 of us. From 6 different places. Six different tastes. Well it doesn’t need a genius to guess what happened next. We met a couple of more brokers, making sure not to bump into the previous brokers whom we had literally harassed with our broken-beyond-comprehension Hindi, but they did retaliate that with their “bangla”…
Once again, we did not improvise a proper strategy…. We split into 2 groups. Which made things from bad to worse. The houses, which group one liked, were obviously not liked by group 2 and vice versa. As this fiasco continued, the initial accommodation provided by our employer was nearing its expiry…we were running out of time.
