Back To Square One

Here I am right where I began... History repeats itself but little did I know that it replicates more than just repeat. This morning I was on another of those wild goose chases masked behind the venture of house hunting....!!! Yep, we would be roofless in exactly 30 days from today ...For those who belong to the IT know the pain of searching for a shelter in a not so friendly neighbourhood marked by "Where-did-U-come-from???" looks .

Lessons that I learnt from Hunt Part I :
  • Nothing comes for free , Human clan who help to help is out of production.
  • Trying n different brokers leaves you looking at the same house n times ( well this has an advantage too, u get to know n different routes to the same house ! ;-) )
  • Landlords of all the houses you like are always invariably get-on-your-nerves type while the sweet ol' uncles/ aunties , who take you immediately for the daughter they never had, take pride in their unbearably uninhabitable flats.
  • The house next to the one your broker shows always looks better.
  • Working in an MNC , esp a popular is not so good for your budget - The landlords and brokers are better informed of your appraisal schedules than your PM :-(
  • Uncles always need to consult aunties to answer something as trivial as "Can we have a look at the house?"
  • Leads from colleagues turn out to be more expensive than brokers ( if only you could tell'em that..!!! :-( )
  • The houses which you are kinda close to booking always get booked in the just in time leaving you less of an option .
  • Brokers who talk a lot, trust me , just talk .
  • A broker's description and the reality are as close as your ideal package and your actual earnings.

Wish me luc people, yet another rant, yet another search.....

I was there in calcutta only once to attend a conference last year. I loved that place a lot - calm surroundings even in the heart of the city - sometimes reminded me of Chennai. The metro to beat the traffic and trams to kill the time, I do miss those....

Anusha, you still have 30 days to go. So you set your own pace. When we joined our companies, we were given company accomodation for exactly seven days. That too for people who are new to the city that was pretty bad experience.

Its difficult bcos I was new to the city a year ago and I thought it is gonna be a one time affair. Settling down seems to be an annual exercise now...I went thru the same cycle not less than a year ago n that is wat makes it more frustrating....

@lonewarrior:
Thanx for ur wishes

No, of course not .. that is quite another story.... I just cant squeeze enough time to rant on that....!!!

@nu$#@.. all the best with your search for a house.

its pretty tough finding one in a new city, when brokers are ready to fleece outsiders.

be careful.
